How to: A Beginners Guide to Kegel Exercises
We’ve all heard of kegels, but do you know what it actually means? Do you know enough to be doing them daily?
Okay. So what are kegel exercises?
First of all, it’s important to note that both men and women should be doing these. Really, how? Well, kegel exercises strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, which support the uterus, bladder, small intestine and rectum. You can do Kegel exercises, also known as pelvic floor muscle training, just about anytime (thanks, Mayo Clinic).
Okay so it looks like these can benefit both men and women, great! But you’re likely not in Voodoo’s Pleasure Center for bladder and intestine health… What impact does this exercise have on sexual health? See below for the benefits courtesy of the International Society for Sexual Medicine:
For the Ladies
Kegel exercises help relax the vagina, making penetration more comfortable. They might also improve vaginal lubrication, allow more blood to flow into the genitals, increase sexual arousal, and make it easier to reach orgasm.
For the Fellas
Some men find that their erectile function improves after doing Kegel exercises for some time, as strengthening can improve erections. They may have more intense orgasms. Relaxation may improve control for premature ejaculation, too.
Need we say more??
Sure, that works.
So how do you do this magical pelvic floor routine? Start by finding your pelvic floor. Do this by stopping urination mid stream. This is what you need to “work out.” Once you’ve identified this area, practice contracting and releasing. The best part? You can do this ANY TIME in AN POSITION. No one will know the wiser. Do 3 sets of 10-15 reps daily and you’ve got a golden pelvic floor, baby!
Want to take your workout to the next level? Voodoo’s Cherry Kegel Balls are five small, weighted balls designed to strengthen the pelvic floor, in five different weights in order to personalize your exercise experience!
